Through the wild and romantic Falkenstein valley and along the steepest main road in Germany with a gradient of over 25% in places, even the journey to Falkenstein is a record-breaking experience. The imposing castle ruins, once the ancestral seat of the counts of Falkenstein, still tower over the municipality located on the south-western foothills of the Donnersberg.
When the nearby mountains become darker and darker at dusk and the approaching full moon bathes the deep valley, the "Schelmenkopf" and the walls of the castle in a satin light, the castle ruins show themselves from their most beautiful side.
On August 8 and 9, the special guided tour "Falkenstein Castle by Moonlight" offers the opportunity to experience this fantastic atmosphere.
The guided tours start at 7.30 pm. The meeting point is at the Falkenstein castle ruins, Hauptstr. 49, 67808 Falkenstein. Adults pay 5 euros, children (7-16 years) 2.50 euros. Flashlights and good footwear are recommended.
As the number of participants on the tours is limited, prior registration is required directly online or at the tourist office of the municipality of Winnweiler, tel. 06302 602 61 or info@winnweiler-vg.de.
