Winter is here. In this context, the municipality of Winnweiler would like to draw your attention to the obligation to clear and grit roads in the event of snowfall and black ice. Please note the following:
- The property owners are responsible for the sidewalks and footpaths, not the municipality.
- The obligation to clear and grit snow applies on working days between 7 am and 8 pm and on Sundays and public holidays between 9 am and 8 pm.
- Property owners adjacent to the road are obliged to keep at least a 1.50 m wide strip of snow and ice clear on the sidewalks. The obligation to grit also extends to the particularly dangerous parts of the road. Ice in street gutters or sewers must be removed and hydrants must be kept clear.
- Please use ash, sand, lava granules, sawdust or grit for this purpose. The use of salt is generally prohibited, as road salt damages trees and plants, corrodes gutters and metal and impairs groundwater quality; it can also cause burns to pets' paws. The use of salt is only permitted in exceptional climatic conditions (e.g. freezing rain) where the use of de-icing agents does not achieve a sufficient gritting effect or in particularly dangerous areas such as stairs, ramps, bridge entrances and exits, steep slopes or similar sections of sidewalk.
Furthermore, an important appeal is made to all drivers: When parking your vehicle, please ensure that there is sufficient remaining width on the road so that the winter road maintenance service of the municipality or the road maintenance department can drive on the roads unhindered.
In the interest of all road users, we ask you to observe the above information and implement it accordingly.
