New fire station in modular timber construction inaugurated in Steinbach

With today's inauguration of the new fire station in Steinbach, we are setting another example for sustainable and future-oriented municipal construction. The building was erected using modular timber construction and is part of an innovative concept with which we intend to modernize several fire department locations in the future.

The fire station in Steinbach was built using serial timber module construction. Wood binds CO₂, is durable and ensures a pleasant indoor climate. At the same time, the modular construction method allows the buildings to be erected quickly and flexibly without having to compromise on functionality, safety or equipment.

We are pursuing a comprehensive concept: in addition to the fire station in Steinbach, two more fire stations will be built in Börrstadt and Breunigweiler in the coming years based on the same principle.

The state of Rhineland-Palatinate supports these projects as part of the "Climate Alliance Building" program. The association municipality received funding of 150,000 euros for the fire station in Steinbach. The two planned fire stations in Börrstadt and Breunigweiler will also each receive 150,000 euros in funding.

Mayor Rudolf Jacob emphasizes:
"With the concept of serial timber modular construction, we have taken an innovative and sustainable path, especially for municipal functional buildings. At the same time, we are setting standards in terms of functionality and cost-effectiveness."

The fire station consists of various functional modules that can be flexibly combined as required. In addition, the building covers part of its energy requirements with its own photovoltaic system.

Around 55 cubic meters of wood were used to build the fire station in Steinbach. With the modular construction concept, we are responding to a challenge faced by many municipalities: Numerous fire station buildings no longer meet today's technical and hygiene requirements or do not offer sufficient space for modern emergency equipment. The modular construction method offers a flexible and economical solution.
