On January 29, 2026, the municipality of Winnweiler once again hosted the popular reading and storytelling competition in the meeting room of the town hall. A total of 12 children took part in the event: 7 children in the reading competition and 5 children in the storytelling competition.
Mayor Jacob welcomed the attendees, wished the participants every success and emphasized the high level of participation. At the same time, he thanked the jury. The jury was made up of the head teachers of the elementary school, teachers from the secondary schools, the head of the municipal library and the first deputy Elisabeth Franck.
After a short introductory reading phase, the 7 participants in the reading competition were called up to read a text from "Willkommen bei den Grauses - wer ist schon normal?" by Sabine Bohlmann. It was not easy for the jury to make a decision, as all the children showed very convincing reading performances. In the end, the points achieved were the deciding factor. Marla Follmann was awarded 1st place, Elli Gauckler 2nd place and Luana Hüniger 3rd place.
Afterwards, the five participating Year 5 pupils from Wilhelm-Erb-Gymnasium and Albert-Schweitzer-Realschule plus Winnweiler put their skills to the test in the storytelling competition. The competition was based on a picture story from the "Father and Son" series by Erich Ohser (e. o. plauen), to which the participants presented their own stories after a short preparation period. It was particularly exciting to see how five completely different stories emerged from the same sequence of pictures. All the children mastered this task with great commitment. After the points were tallied, the winners were announced.
Noah Koslowski took 1st place, Abigail Cathey 2nd place and Luca Ketter 3rd place.
The prizes were awarded by Elisabeth Franck, 1st Deputy Mayor of the municipality. In addition to certificates and vouchers from the Franck bookshop for the first to third place winners, all other participating children also received small gifts.
Many thanks to all those involved - the pupils for their participation, the jury for their dedicated evaluation and those who made the preparation and organization of the event possible. We would also like to take this opportunity to mention the Winnweiler community library once again: With its extensive range of books for children and young people as well as many other media, it is an important place for reading promotion and reading experience in the municipality. It is well worth a visit - also to prepare for the next reading and storytelling competition!
