Mayor and aldermen
The municipality of Winnweiler is headed by a full-time mayor. He is the head of the association municipality administration and represents the association municipality externally. His duties include, in particular, the preparation and implementation of the resolutions of the Association Municipal Council as well as the management of day-to-day administration and the representation of the Association Municipality in political, social and economic matters.
The mayor is elected by the citizens in a general, direct and free election. The term of office is eight years. The current term of office began after the mayoral election in 2023.
Aldermen are appointed to support the mayor. They take on certain areas of responsibility in accordance with the main statutes and represent the mayor when necessary.

The municipal council is the central decision-making body of the municipality of Winnweiler. It is made up of the elected council members and the mayor as chairman. The members are elected for a term of office as part of the municipal elections. The current association municipal council was elected in the local elections on 09.06.2024.
The association municipal council decides in particular on the budget, bylaws, fundamental planning and other matters of local self-government. The meetings are usually held in public.
